Maria Barrientos and the Safeway Project Design Team will hold a virtual community meeting Monday evening, November 9, 2020 from 5:00pm-7:00pm.

From Maria Barrientos

"Our project design has been chugging along and we just received notice from the city that we were cleared to schedule our Design Review Meeting (DRB).  The date for the DRB is December 2, 2020  from 5:00-8:00 pm.  This will be an online design review.  We will be submitting the final DRB design presentation package to the City by  November 18th.  The DRB package will be posted on-line after that.

We invite you to participate in a design review presentation with us prior to that.  We would like the opportunity to show you all how the design has evolved, particularly on Queen Anne Avenue N and get your feedback in time to make any adjustments before we submit the final package.

We are calling this project 21Boston, as the residential entry will be at the corner of Boston
and 1st Ave N.

As you recall, the new Safeway store will take up most of the Queen Anne Avenue N fa├žade.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions prior to that. My contact information is

Thanks to the generosity of so many supporters, we have exhausted our supply of pavers to inscribe. Despite the "Buy A Paver" button, there are no more available.

Bernie Clites of Artistic Sandblasting NW will be engraving your inscriptions. Click on the link to take a look at some of the work she has done. She truly has an artistic flair. We are very pleased to have found her and can hardly wait to see the finished pavers.

These new pavers will complete the curbside pathway in the large Galer garden bed. We will let you know when their installation has been completed and they are ready to be viewed and walked on!

Thanks, Everyone.

The gardens are doing beautifully well. We hope you are, too.

We are extremely fortunate to have two dedicated women caring for the gardens this summer. Marianna maintains the beds, pruning plants, deadheading flowers, removing litter. Kailey waters the gardens, making as many trips as necessary to make sure the plants have as much water as they need during the hot, dry days. Both Marianna and Kailey are devoted to the gardens and insist on giving them as much TLC as they possibly can. As Kailey remarked, "This is still my favorite site. I literally water all over Seattle and there is nothing that comes close to your gardens in Queen Anne."

It's not just the gardens that have been doing well. Snails have been faring quite well this year, too. In fact, they were seen in April having a field day, especially on the yucca fronds. Indeed, life for these mollusks with their elegantly patterned shells is good.
