THE GARDENS IN FALL

What a colorful fall this has been so far. The leaves of the Parrotia persica ‘Vanessa’ (Ironwood) trees have turned yellow overhead, while below, the purple catmint and asters, the magenta penstemon, the red and white ‘Hot Lips’ and the yellow yarrow continue to dazzle with their nonstop blooms.

And now the rains have come. What will the gardens look like next??

Come Visit Us at the QAFM

PPQA Board members will be in the Community Tent at the QA Farmers Market this coming Thursday, August 2nd. Stop by to share your thoughts about the streetscape improvements along QA Ave and what you'd like to see that would make the streetscape look even better. We'll also have lavender from the gardens that you can make into a lavender wand, put into a sachet packet, or take home as is. There's nothing like the scent of lavender!

We look forward to seeing you on Thursday.

WINDERMERE COMMUNITY DAY---JUNE 8, 2018

Twenty-three realtors and one Golden Retriever came ready and eager to spend the morning on Queen Anne Ave pulling weeds, picking up litter, sweeping sidewalks and street gutters, and washing utility poles and newspaper boxes. When they were done, the Avenue from McGraw to Galer fairly gleamed.

The Board is honored that Windermere Real Estate|Queen Anne selected PPQA and the Queen Anne Avenue streetscape as their Community Day project.

We wish to thank Susan Leonardson, Stephanie McRae, Danyelle O’Neal, Kamie Rasmussen, Holley Ring, Rene Stern, Kimberly Striker Hall, Karla Sullivan, Nancy Williams, Mindi Thomas, Cassandra Braatz, Cassie Walker Johnson, Nicole Bailey, Kevin Bohnert, Chris Cooley, Andrew Dolmseth, Sarah Dupuis, Susan Gilbert, Scott Haveson, Kimo Hunter, Dana Johnston, Diane Lancaster, Mary Lee…and Rene’s beautiful Golden Retriever, Brooklyn, for being well-rooted in their community and wanting to see the heart of our neighborhood looking sparkling clean and inviting.

   A giveBIG THANK YOU

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all of you who dug deep and gaveBIG on May 9th. We met our match and raised more than $8500.00, a record amount!!!

Your generosity will bring a riot of summer color to Galer, Boston, and McGraw and assures that the Seattle Conservation Corps will be able to bring water to the gardens and hand water them (all 4,000 square feet) as often as is necessary to keep them looking their best during the hottest, driest months of the season.

We are grateful that you are deeply rooted in our Queen Anne neighborhood and are keeping the heart of our community vibrant and welcoming.

We hope you had a chance to enjoy the wisteria in full bloom. Your support made the awesome display possible.

SAFEWAY REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT UPDATE IV

THE APRIL 4th EDG MEETING HAS BEEN CANCELED

The EDG Review Board heard all of us. Most importantly, Safeway heard all of us. The Safeway design team, influenced by our community's voices, has started from scratch to design a project that they hope will reflect and respect what we would like to see occupy this pivotal corner in the heart of our neighborhood.

Needing additional time to work on their plans, the design team has asked to postpone their presentation scheduled for Wednesday, April 4th. A new date has not yet been set.

THE PPQA BOARD WELCOMES TWO NEW MEMBERS

We'd like to introduce Judy Massong and Denny Bird.

Judy has an eye for beautiful gardens as well as a lovely green thumb. She's a devoted gardener with an in-depth knowledge of Pacific Northwest horticulture. You may have visited her beautiful garden on a tour of Queen Anne residential gardens. A long-time PPQA donor and garden volunteer, she's excited to be putting her knowledge of gardening and fundraising to good use in her community.

Denny waxes eloquently about our Queen Anne neighborhood and shows it daily in the interactions he has with friends and neighbors. He further shows it as a member of the Queen Anne Community Council and its Land Use Review Committee. After taking part in PPQA garden work parties and fundraising activities over the last two years, this man of boundless energy, enthusiasm, and know-how (he also has a green thumb) finally agreed to become a Board member.

We're thrilled to have you both at the table!

SAFEWAY REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT UPDATE III

In light of the Early Design Guidance (EDG) Report issued on December 28, 2017, the Safeway team has gone back to the drawing boards to start from scratch and redesign their project.

Picture Perfect Queen Anne has sent a letter to the Safeway team and the building department’s city planner calling attention to and advocating for key recommendations embodied in the
Queen Anne Avenue Streetscape Master Plan.

The Safeway team will be invited to attend either the February or March LURC meeting to present their new plans prior to their presentation before the EDG Review Board on April 4th.

We will continue to relay information as we receive it.
